Teacher of Sociology

Location: Canterbury, Kent
Salary: £120 – £250 per day (depending on experience)

As a Teacher of Sociology, you will join a humanities and social sciences faculty dedicated to fostering analytical thinking, debate, and independent research skills.

As a Sociology Teacher, you’ll be expected to:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Sociology lessons in line with the curriculum.
  • Teach Sociology across relevant Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, ensuring high academic standards.
  • Prepare lesson materials, assess student work, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Encourage critical thinking, discussion, and independent enquiry.
  • Monitor student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and student engagement.
  • Contribute to departmental planning and wider school initiatives.
  • Uphold safeguarding, curriculum, and assessment policies at all times.

To be considered for the Teacher of Sociology role, you must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK or relevant teaching experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sociology or a related social sciences field.
  • Proven experience teaching Sociology in schools.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver high-quality lessons.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to supporting students’ academic and personal development.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Meet GSL’s safer recruitment background checks.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
