Behaviour Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £1950 – £2491 per month
GSL Education is looking for a dedicated and skilled Behaviour Mentor to work full-time within a specialist SEMH provision in York. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting children and young people to manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours, and re-engage with learning.
About the Setting
The provision supports pupils aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those with Autism, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, or additional learning needs. With small class sizes and a strong pastoral focus, staff work collaboratively to provide a structured, nurturing environment where pupils can build confidence, resilience, and achieve both academic and personal success.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:
- Support pupils in managing emotions and developing positive behaviours
- Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils to promote engagement
- Work alongside teachers and support staff to deliver a safe and structured learning environment
- Assist with reintegration plans and personal development goals
- Monitor and record behaviour and progress, reporting to the relevant staff
We Are Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or SEN needs
- Knowledge of behaviour management, de-escalation strategies, and trauma-informed approaches
- A calm, patient, consistent and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
- Full-time availability
