GSL Education are seeking dedicated and resilient Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support staff to work in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Hartlepool.

As an SEN Support member in a PRU setting, you will work closely with students who may have additional needs such as SEMH, behavioural challenges, or learning difficulties.

Responsibilities of the SEN Support (PRU Setting):

  • Provide Targeted Support: Deliver one-to-one and small group support tailored to students with SEN and additional behavioural needs.
  • Promote Positive Behaviour: Support students in managing their emotions and making positive choices.
  • Implement Support Plans: Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies consistently.
  • Encourage Engagement: Help students re-engage with learning through structured and supportive approaches.
  • Support Emotional Wellbeing: Build trusting relationships and provide a safe, consistent presence.
  • Work Closely with Staff: Collaborate with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
  • Monitor Progress: Record and report on students’ academic and behavioural development.
  • Maintain a Safe Environment: Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure a calm, secure learning space.

Requirements of the SEN Support (PRU Setting):

  • Experience: Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or challenging behaviour is essential.
  • Resilience: Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in a dynamic environment.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Empathy and Understanding: A genuine desire to support vulnerable young people.
  • Team Player: Willingness to work collaboratively within a specialist school setting.
  • DBS: An enhanced DBS check registered to the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
