Primary Teacher
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: April 2026
Contract: Maternity Cover, Full Time
Salary: MPS/UPS

GSL Education is working alongside a reputable alternative provision in York to appoint a full-time Upper Key Stage 2 Teacher for a 1 year maternity cover, due to start in April 2026. You will be working within a Year 5 and 6 class, made up of 6 students, working at Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2 levels.

About the School:

  • Specialist provision for SEMH needs supporting pupils aged 5–16 who struggle in mainstream settings, with a strong focus on tailored emotional and academic support.
  • Primary provision is highly personalised, with small group teaching, adapted National Curriculum delivery, and emphasis on literacy, phonics, and core skill development.
  • Strong focus on building trusting relationships, emotional regulation, and social skills alongside academic progress.
  • High staff-to-pupil ratios, allowing teachers autonomy to adapt lessons and provide meaningful differentiation.
  • Holistic approach to education, incorporating PSHCE, wellbeing, and therapeutic support to prepare pupils for successful reintegration or onward pathways.

As the Ideal Primary Teacher, you will:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching within a primary setting.
  • Proven experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, or additional behavioural needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
  • Experience delivering differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to promoting pupil wellbeing.
