Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistants
Location: Wakefield (WF4)
Pay rate: £460 -£600 per week (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract type -Day-to-day/ Long-term, Full-time/ Part-time

GSL Education are proud to introduce SEMH Teaching Assistants into a school serving the WF4 district of Wakefield, offering essential support to pupils requiring extra care.

In this role, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Teaching Assistants (SEMH TA) will work closely with teachers and pupils, supporting learning activities, promoting positive behaviour, and helping students develop resilience and confidence in a nurturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a one-to-one or small group basis.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
  • Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and completing classroom tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement support strategies.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.

Requirements of SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and act as a trusted adult for pupils.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
