Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield (WF4)
Payrate: £13.50 -£14.30 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day / Long-term | Part-time / Full-time
Setting: Alternative Provision (AP) School

GSL Education are seeking a motivated SEMH TA to provide consistent classroom and pastoral support in AP schools across Wakefield (WF4), working with pupils who benefit from structured guidance and positive encouragement.
As Social, Emotional and Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build positive behaviour patterns. The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated.
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver focused support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Encourage emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement in learning.
- Work individually or with small groups to meet specific needs.
- Assist teachers in maintaining a structured and supportive classroom setting.
- Contribute to behaviour strategies and personalised intervention plans.
Requirements:
- Previous experience or in a related support role.
- A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
