Job description
A warm and welcoming primary school in Loughton is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work 1:1 with a child with autism in a KS1 classroom. This is a full time, long term position, starting as soon as possible, and offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference at a key stage in a child’s development.
About the Role
In this role, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support within a KS1 class, helping the pupil to access learning, follow routines, and develop communication and social skills. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team to deliver consistent support in line with the child’s EHCP and individual support plans.
Key Responsibilities

Providing consistent 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with autism

Supporting the child within the classroom and during structured activities

Assisting with communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs

Helping adapt learning activities to suit the child’s individual needs

Encouraging positive behaviour, independence, and engagement

Supporting transitions, routines, and social interaction

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
The Ideal Candidate
-
Experience supporting children with autism or SEN, ideally in EYFS or KS1
-
A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills

Confidence supporting behaviour, routines, and emotional regulation

A genuine passion for working with young children

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
