Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant
Location: Tower Hamlets
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Long-term (with potential to go permanent)
Salary: £95–£110 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic Alternative Provision school in Tower Hamlets. This setting supports students who require a more personalised and therapeutic learning environment, often due to behavioural, social, or emotional needs.
As a Behaviour Support TA, you will play a vital role in helping students re-engage with learning by building trust, encouraging positive choices, and providing calm, consistent support throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support to pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
- Implement de-escalation strategies and restorative approaches
- Support teaching staff in maintaining a positive, structured learning environment
- Work closely with the SENCO, pastoral team, and external agencies where required
- Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils to promote engagement and progress
- Contribute to behaviour plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding practices
Requirements
- Strong behaviour management skills — essential
- Experience working within Alternative Provisions, PRUs, mainstream SEN settings, or with challenging behaviour
- Calm, resilient, and patient approach
- Ability to build rapport quickly and maintain firm but fair boundaries
- Team player with a proactive mindset
- A valid enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
