Job description

We are looking to appoint a General Learning Mentor to join our School in Dorchester, supporting young people who need a more personalised approach to education.

About the school

The School provides alternative provision for students who have been referred for a variety of reasons that have made attending mainstream school difficult. We work closely with local schools and local authorities, with students referred from across Dorset.

Our aim is to re-engage learners, build confidence, and support both academic and personal development in a safe, nurturing environment.

The Role

As a General Learning Mentor, you will:

  • Support students with their learning, engagement, and emotional wellbeing

  • Work with individuals and small groups to promote positive behaviour and routines

  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and motivation in learning

  • Support classroom activities and practical learning sessions

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff

About You

  • A caring, patient, and resilient individual

  • Passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to education

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Experience working with children, young people, or SEN is desirable but not essential

What We Offer

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day

  • Competitive pay, dependent on experience

If you’re someone who wants to support young people to succeed beyond the classroom and help them re-engage with learning, we would love to hear from you.
