Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Salary: £460 – £600 per week
Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Sheffield, where you will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to students both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to help manage behaviour, promote positive engagement, and support students’ academic and emotional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Support students in managing emotions and behaviour positively.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and structured lessons.
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans.
  • Monitor and record student progress, reporting to relevant staff.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
