Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield (WF4)
Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term | Full-time / Part-time
Are you a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant looking to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs?
GSL Education are currently seeking dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to work within supportive schools across Wakefield (WF4).
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will play a vital role in supporting students who require additional emotional and behavioural support. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment where pupils can thrive both academically and emotionally.
Responsibilities:
• Support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs on a one-to-one or small group basis.
• Assist in managing behaviour and emotional regulation in line with school policies.
• Encourage positive engagement with learning activities.
• Help implement tailored support strategies and behaviour plans.
• Support classroom learning across the curriculum.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff.
Requirements:
• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour support.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Relevant qualifications (CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3, Psychology or Education-related degree) are desirable but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
