Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Salary: £23124 – £27258 FTE
The Role
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs. This is a rewarding, full-time role for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential.
You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils to access learning, develop independence, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment.
Special Needs Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of special educational needs.
- Support learning across the curriculum by adapting tasks and resources.
- Assist with communication, emotional regulation, and social development.
- Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and unstructured periods.
- Help maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teaching, therapy, and pastoral teams.
- Follow individual education plans (EHCPs) and support strategies.
- Promote positive behaviour and pupil wellbeing at all times.
