Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist
SEN Teaching Assistant – Hackney
Are you a graduate with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs and an ambition to become a Speech and Language Therapist?
We are currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a non-verbal child in a welcoming and supportive school located in Hackney. This role is an excellent stepping stone for someone looking to gain hands-on, relevant experience before pursuing further training in Speech and Language Therapy.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide individualised support to a non-verbal child within the classroom
- Implement communication strategies and support plans
- Encourage engagement, learning, and social interaction
- Work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support the child’s development
Speech and Language Therapy Exposure
This position is particularly well suited to an aspiring Speech and Language Therapist as:
- A qualified Speech and Language Therapist works with the child twice a week
- You will have the opportunity to observe, learn, and shadow the therapist during sessions
- Gain invaluable insight into therapeutic techniques, communication strategies, and professional practice
Ideal Candidate
- A graduate (Psychology, Linguistics, Education, or related field preferred)
- Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist or similar allied health professional
- Patient, empathetic, and proactive
- Passionate about working with children with SEN
- Keen to learn from experienced professionals in a school-based setting
