Location: Newham
Salary: £40,653 – £62,774 per annum
Start Date: April/September 2026
Contract: Permanent

GSL Education London Branch are excited to be looking for an experienced Head of Geography to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Newham. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Head of Geography who wants to lead, inspire and make a real difference to pupils’ learning and outcomes.

As Head of Geography, you will play a key role in shaping the vision of the department and driving high standards of teaching and learning from Year 7 to Year 11. The school is keen to welcome a dedicated Head of Geography who can motivate staff, engage pupils and deliver an excellent Geography curriculum. Head of Geography Responsibilities:

  • Lead the teachers in the department and provide a clear structure to deliver an excellent curriculum from Year 7 to Year 11
  • Monitor academy procedures and routines, and ensure they are followed by all teachers
  • Provide guidance, advice and coaching to Geography teachers to support high-quality teaching
  • Ensure strong pupil outcomes by supporting teaching that leads to better than expected progress
  • Keep up to date with specifications and examination requirements and ensure all Geography staff understand them
  • Track and monitor pupil progress in Geography and put timely interventions in place
  • Manage departmental resources to maximise impact on pupil progress
  • Analyse Geography performance data and create improvement and action plans
  • Plan and teach high-quality Geography lessons to pupils in Year 7 to Year 11
  • Provide meaningful feedback to pupils to help them improve

Head of Geography Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching Geography at the secondary level
  • Previous leadership or management experience within a Geography department
  • Strong knowledge of the Geography curriculum and exam specifications
  • Ability to lead, support and motivate a team
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Commitment to raising standards and improving pupil outcomes
