SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield (WF4)
Pay: £460 – £600 per week (based on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term, Part-Time / Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teaching Assistants to provide dedicated, one-to-one or small group support for students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges for schools in Wakefield (WF4). This SEMH TA role is ideal for someone patient, empathetic, and confident in supporting students to engage with learning and build confidence.
Your Responsibilities:
- Support students with SEMH needs during lessons and activities
- Assist in implementing individual support plans and strategies
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning
- Build trusting relationships to support emotional and social development
- Liaise with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals as needed
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and wellbeing
Who We’re Looking for in a SEMH TA:
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably in SEMH settings
- Calm, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and consistently
- Professional, reliable, and student-focused
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through GSL Education
