SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Redcar and Cleveland
Start Date: ASAP / February start available
Contract: Full-time, term time only
Pay: £88 – £110 per day
GSL Education are recruiting skilled and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support children and young people in a specialist SEND school in Redcar and Cleveland. This setting supports pupils aged 2–16 years with a wide range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and additional communication or developmental needs.

The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with diverse additional needs, helping them to access learning and achieve both personal and educational goals. You will work closely with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver planned and responsive support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASC, SEMH, MLD, and complex needs
- Support pupils’ academic development, communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Deliver personalised learning activities that build confidence, independence, and functional skills
- Reinforce behaviour strategies, routines, and positive engagement throughout the school day
- Assist with differentiated tasks, visual supports, sensory strategies, and personalised resources
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCo, therapists, and external professionals to meet individual targets
The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will Have:
- Experience or a strong interest in supporting children with SEND and complex needs
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach with strong relationship-building skills
- Confidence supporting emotional regulation, de-escalation, and behaviour strategies
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Relevant experience or training (e.g. Teaching Assistant qualification, childcare, psychology, youth work, or therapy support) is desirable
