Job description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in a child’s school day? Do you thrive in a supportive, nurturing environment where every small win matters?
GSL Education is working with a primary school in Harlow that is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a child with autism. The school benefits from a separate, specialist SEN provision, offering excellent resources, structure, and support for both pupils and staff.

About the Role

This is a full time, immediate start role where you’ll work closely with one child, helping them access learning, develop communication skills, and feel confident and safe within the school environment. You’ll be part of a warm, experienced SEN team that truly values collaboration and inclusion.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing 1:1 support tailored to the needs of a child with autism

  • Supporting learning both in the classroom and within the specialist SEN provision

  • Encouraging communication, independence, and positive behaviour

  • Using strategies such as visual supports, routine, and sensory awareness

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff

  • Helping to create a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with autism and/or SEN (school-based preferred)

  • A patient, calm, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3) are desirable but not essential—the right attitude and experience are key.

Why This School?

  • A welcoming, inclusive primary school with a strong SEN ethos

  • Dedicated SEN provision with experienced staff

  • Supportive leadership and excellent on-site guidance

  • Opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a lasting impact

Why Work with GSL Education?

  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement

  • Competitive daily pay

  • Access to ongoing CPD and SEN-focused training

  • Long-term stability in a fantastic school setting

If you’re ready to take on a rewarding role where no two days are the same and your impact truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.
