Job description

A primary school in Harlow is seeking a specialist Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with autism. This is a fantastic opportunity for a compassionate, patient, and experienced professional to make a real difference in a child’s learning and development.


The Role:

  • Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with autism in a primary school setting.

  • Help the child access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.

  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualised support plans.

  • Support social, emotional, and behavioural development using positive strategies.

  • Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in learning.

  • Maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing environment to meet the child’s needs.


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children with autism or complex additional needs in a school setting.

  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable, with excellent communication skills.

  • Able to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

  • Confident implementing positive behaviour strategies and individual learning plans.

  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or SEN-specific training are desirable but not essential.
