SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: York
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: January 2026
GSL Education are seeking a resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs within a specialist education setting in York.
About the School
This provision supports pupils who have experienced challenges within mainstream education. Staff focus on emotional regulation, relationship building and re-engagement with learning through a calm, structured and trauma-informed approach.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group SEMH support

Support emotional regulation and behaviour strategies

Encourage positive engagement and resilience

Assist with personalised learning plans

Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff
Requirements

Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs

Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
-
Calm, patient and empathetic approach

Ability to build trusting relationships

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
