Experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant - full time at a secondary school in South Manchester 

Monday - Friday, Term time only

We are currently seeking an experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant to work on a full-time basis in a secondary school in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to promote positive learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students in the classroom, either one-to-one or in small groups

  • Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management

  • Providing targeted support to students with additional learning needs (SEN experience desirable)

  • Assisting teachers in adapting lessons and resources to meet individual needs

  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques where required

  • Supporting students with emotional regulation, social skills, and engagement in learning

  • Working closely with the SENCO, teachers, and pastoral teams to monitor progress and provide feedback

  • Promoting inclusion and positive behaviour within the classroom and wider school environment

  • Assisting with personal or academic support where necessary (depending on pupil needs)

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with SEN, including those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and moderate learning difficulties

  • Supporting students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in line with individual learning targets

  • Encouraging student engagement, behaviour, and academic progress

  • Supporting pupils with literacy, numeracy, and subject-specific work

  • Assisting with preparation of learning materials and resources

  • Supervising students during lessons and school activities as required

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school

  • Strong understanding of the secondary curriculum (KS3 & KS4)

  • Proven experience supporting SEN pupils in a secondary school setting

  • Strong understanding of a range of SEND needs and effective support strategies
  • Experience working with EHCPs and targeted interventions
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
