Job Title: SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield (S2, S3)
Pay rate: £460 -£600 per week (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediately/January 2026
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are proud to offer an opportunity for a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support learners requiring consistency, patience, and encouragement in schools situated in Sheffield, specifically serving the S2 and S3 areas.
As an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant, you will support students with social, emotional, or mental health challenges, helping them feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. The role requires someone who can build trust, set boundaries, and respond positively to challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Work one-to-one or in small groups to help students manage emotions and behaviour.
- Support positive routines and encourage appropriate engagement with learning.
- Assist staff with behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Observe and record progress, sharing updates with relevant staff.
- Promote a calm, supportive, and structured environment.
Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, suitable for a SEMH Teaching Assistant role.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a professional manner.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
- A clear understanding of safeguarding and student wellbeing.
