Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Wimborne
Salary: £13.68 – £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: January 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Are you a calm, compassionate, and resilient individual passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school community in Wimborne, starting January 2026.

As an SEMH TA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils who may present emotional and behavioural challenges linked to SEMH, ADHD, trauma, anxiety, and additional learning needs. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in SEMH, behaviour support, mental health, or care settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour plans, risk assessments, and individual support strategies.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals.
  • Promote pupils’ independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures, behaviour policies, and school policies at all times.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour support.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive attitude.
