Job Title: Mental Health Support Worker
Location: Bournemouth
Salary: £13.68 – £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: January 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Are you a compassionate, patient, and resilient individual passionate about supporting children and young people with mental health needs? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join a supportive and inclusive school community in Bournemouth, in January 2026.

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils experiencing emotional, social, and mental health challenges, including SEMH, anxiety, trauma-related needs, ADHD, and behavioural difficulties. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals to help pupils feel safe, understood, and empowered to engage positively with learning. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in mental health, SEN, care, or support work who are motivated to make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group emotional and pastoral support to pupils.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour plans, mental health strategies, and individual support plans.
  • Help to create a calm, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals.
  • Promote pupils’ wellbeing, confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures, care plans, and school policies at all times.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with mental health or SEMH needs is desirable.
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive attitude towards support and intervention.
