SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough area
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: January 2026
GSL Education are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting near Scarborough. This role is ideal for someone who wants to support children and young people with a wide range of additional needs in a nurturing and adaptable learning environment.
About the School
The provision supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), autism and other learning needs. Pupils benefit from personalised curriculums, smaller class sizes and specialist staff trained in inclusive practice designed to boost confidence, independence and engagement. Need for therapeutic support and strong pastoral care is central to the daily approach.
SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.
• Assist with delivering personalised learning and behaviour support plans.
• Encourage emotional regulation, communication and resilience.
• Support pupils with academic work and practical tasks.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff and external professionals.
Requirements
• Experience working with pupils with SEND or SEMH needs.
• Understanding of behaviour support, de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches.
• Patience, empathy and strong communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
