Autism Support Worker

Location: Whitby, North Yorkshire
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP / January 2026

GSL Education are recruiting a calm, patient Autism Support Worker for a specialist secondary setting near Whitby. The role focuses on supporting autistic learners with communication, sensory processing and emotional regulation.

About the School

Responsibilities

  • Support autistic pupils with learning, communication and sensory regulation

  • Use TEACCH-based strategies, visual prompts and de-escalation techniques

  • Assist teachers with personalised learning plans

  • Encourage positive interactions and engagement

  • Maintain a calm, structured classroom environment

Requirements

  • Experience supporting autistic children or young people

  • Understanding of sensory needs and communication challenges

  • Kind, patient and consistent approach

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
