Behaviour Teaching Assistant 

Location: Scarborough
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP / January 2026
Contract: Full-time / Long-term placements available

GSL Education are recruiting a Behaviour Teaching Assistant for a Scarborough specialist setting that supports learners with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs. The role is suited to practitioners who are confident implementing positive behaviour approaches.

• The provision focuses on re-engagement, restorative practice and targeted behaviour support to help pupils access learning and social opportunities.
• Staff use consistent routines, positive reinforcement and bespoke interventions to reduce risk and build pro-social skills.
• There is a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary work, staff training and creating opportunities for pupils to succeed.

Role overview

  • Implement and support behaviour programmes and de-escalation techniques in 1:1 and group settings.

  • Work with pupils to develop emotional regulation, social understanding and coping strategies.

  • Support reintegration into mainstream lessons where appropriate and liaise with pastoral staff.

  • Contribute to behaviour plans, incident records and multi-agency meetings.

Requirements

  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH or complex behaviour needs.

  • Strong knowledge of positive behaviour management and de-escalation skills.

  • Calm, consistent and resilient with excellent communication skills.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
