Autism Support Worker 

Location: Scarborough
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP / January 2026
Contract: Full-time / Part-time options

GSL Education are seeking Autism Support Workers to join a Scarborough specialist provision that focuses on supporting pupils with autism spectrum conditions through structured routines and personalised communication plans.

About the school

• The setting provides an ASC-friendly environment with emphasis on sensory regulation, visual structure and predictable routines.
• Staff deliver bespoke communication strategies (visuals, PECS, Makaton where appropriate) and collaborate with therapists.
• The provision supports pupils’ independence through life-skills and social communication programmes.

Role overview

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASC, using evidence-based communication and sensory strategies.

  • Implement individual behaviour and sensory plans to reduce anxiety and promote engagement.

  • Support transitions, social skills groups and independence development.

  • Liaise with teachers, parents and therapy teams to ensure consistency of approach.

Requirements

  • Experience working with pupils with autism or equivalent training.

  • Knowledge of ASC strategies and sensory regulation practices.

  • Patient, consistent and skilled at building rapport.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
