Autism Support Worker
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Start Date: January 2026
Salary: £88 – £105 per day
Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are looking for compassionate Autism Support Workers to join one of our partner specialist provisions in Scarborough. This role is ideal for someone who is dedicated to supporting young people with Autism, communication needs and associated learning differences in a structured and nurturing environment.

Autism Support Worker Requirements:

• Experience supporting children or young people with Autism or other additional needs. • Knowledge of communication strategies such as PECs, visuals or sensory support is desirable. • Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent, especially during challenging moments. • Strong communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively with teachers and specialists. • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. • Have an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one.

Autism Support Worker Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism, helping them access learning and daily routines. • Use visual supports and structured approaches to promote understanding and independence. • Assist in creating a safe, predictable and supportive classroom environment. • Encourage positive social interaction, communication development and emotional regulation. • Work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to implement individual plans. • Record observations, support progress tracking and contribute to pupil reviews where needed.
