A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a reliable and approachable Pastoral Support Assistant to join their team and support students with their behaviour, wellbeing and emotional development.

The school is known for its strong pastoral focus and supportive culture, providing a safe and structured environment for students who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour or attendance. They work closely with families and external agencies to make sure every student gets the support they need to succeed. Staff are approachable, teamwork is key, and no two days are ever the same.

About the Role:

As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you’ll be working closely with students who need extra support managing emotions, behaviour and school life. You’ll help create a safe space where they feel heard, supported and encouraged to make positive choices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with emotional, behavioural or social needs.

  • Support pupils during difficult moments, helping them regulate and refocus positively.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students and act as a positive role model.

  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and safeguarding teams to provide consistent support.

  • Monitor behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, keeping clear and accurate records.

  • Support students during break times, transitions and unstructured parts of the day.

  • Help implement behaviour and support plans tailored to individual students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an education, care or youth setting.

  • A strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional wellbeing support.

  • Calm, patient and resilient — you don’t take things personally, you problem-solve.

  • Confident communicator who can connect with students, staff and parents.

  • A genuine passion for helping young people feel supported and understood.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Hold an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last 2 years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
