Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: Up to £110 per day
Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term

Are you passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? An excellent opportunity has become available at a school in Sheffield for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team and make a real difference in the classroom.

The school provides tailored support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs, creating a structured, consistent and supportive environment where students can regulate, engage and progress. Staff work closely as a team to support both academic development and emotional wellbeing, using clear routines, positive behaviour strategies and personalised interventions.

About the Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour, anxiety, or emotional regulation difficulties. You’ll provide consistent support in lessons, during transitions, and through targeted interventions, helping pupils stay focused, feel safe and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.

  • Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.

  • Build strong, professional relationships to support emotional regulation.

  • Assist with lesson delivery and help adapt learning materials where needed.

  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and independence throughout the school day.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and support staff.

  • Record and report on progress and behaviour where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour.

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students.

  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced school environment.
