SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Hull
Daily Rate: £88.94 – £104.84 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time
Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them overcome challenges in their education?
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision in Hull, providing essential support to pupils who require a nurturing, structured, and understanding environment.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will play a key role in helping pupils manage their emotions, develop positive behaviour strategies, and engage with learning. Working closely with teaching staff, you will help deliver tailored activities designed to meet the unique needs of each child.
Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide behaviour support and assist pupils with emotional regulation strategies.
- Work closely with teachers to deliver personalised learning activities.
- Support students 1:1 or in small groups to help them engage positively with lessons.
- Build strong, supportive relationships that encourage confidence and resilience.
- Maintain a calm, consistent approach when managing challenging behaviours.
- Assist in creating a safe, structured environment that promotes learning and personal growth.
SEMH TA Requirements:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges.
- CACHE Level 2 or 3 / NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant field or Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential.
- Strong communication, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Confidence working in an alternative provision environment.
- A valid enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
