About the School:
The school caters to children in the primary age group, with a strong focus on those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. It also supports students with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs). The school is committed to providing a nurturing, calm, and inclusive environment where students feel safe and respected. With small class sizes (no more than seven pupils per class) and high staffing levels, each child receives the individual attention they need. The school is equipped with purpose-built classrooms, a sensory room, therapy hub, quiet rooms, and extensive outdoor areas, including a sports hall, playground, and courtyard garden. The school follows a flexible timetable that combines primary and secondary school learning, adapting to the diverse needs of its pupils while offering a safe space to build resilience and confidence.
About the Role:

- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation.
- Lead the development and implementation of the PE curriculum, incorporating sensory-friendly and behaviour-sensitive strategies.

- Collaborate with staff to support the implementation of behavioural strategies that promote success in PE sessions.
- Take on a leadership role in developing and enhancing the PE department, including managing resources and supporting colleagues.
- Develop and lead extracurricular activities that promote physical health and well-being for all students.
- Contribute to the broader school community by promoting the importance of physical education across the curriculum.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience in teaching physical education, ideally in a special education or SEMH setting (although this position is also open to unqualified teachers or sports coaches with relevant experience).
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues in a special education environment.
- Passionate about promoting healthy, active lifestyles for all students, especially those with additional behavioural or emotional needs.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience in adapting lesson content to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and emotional needs.
- A commitment to creating an environment where all students can thrive and achieve their full potential.
