Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £85 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient, and motivated to make a positive impact on the lives of children who need extra emotional and behavioural support.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Provide tailored one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation through clear strategies.
- Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to promote confidence and self-esteem.
- Monitor and record progress, sharing updates with teachers and support staff.
- Support pupils during lessons and transitions to ensure their wellbeing and focus.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to meet individual needs.
To be a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will require:
- Previous experience supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Qualifications in education, youth work, or psychology are desirable but not essential.
- A calm, empathetic, and understanding nature.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine desire to help children overcome barriers to learning.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
