Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)

Salary: £85 – £110 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient, and motivated to make a positive impact on the lives of children who need extra emotional and behavioural support.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation through clear strategies.
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to promote confidence and self-esteem.
  • Monitor and record progress, sharing updates with teachers and support staff.
  • Support pupils during lessons and transitions to ensure their wellbeing and focus.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to meet individual needs.

To be a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will require:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • Qualifications in education, youth work, or psychology are desirable but not essential.
  • A calm, empathetic, and understanding nature.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine desire to help children overcome barriers to learning.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
