Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £85 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact. GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs across specialist and mainstream schools in Sheffield.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to help pupils develop resilience, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Help manage emotional regulation and behaviour positively.
- Assist teachers in creating supportive and engaging learning environments.
- Encourage students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
- Promote positive relationships and self-esteem among pupils.
- Monitor progress and report key information to staff.
- Uphold safeguarding and inclusion policies at all times.
Requirements for an SEMH TA:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (school or care setting).
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging situations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine passion for helping students achieve their potential.
- Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or youth work (advantageous but not essential).
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
