Teaching Assistant – Year 6 (SEMH/ADHD Support)
Location: Tameside
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (until Summer 2026)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:15pm
Are you a skilled and experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong background in supporting pupils with SEMH and ADHD? This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a key pastoral support role within a dedicated Year 6 team at a welcoming primary school in Tameside, starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year in Summer 2026.
About the Role:
You’ll work with two Year 6 pupils requiring intensive, structured support to engage with the curriculum and regulate their emotions. Your day will include a mix of classroom-based support, 1:1 interventions, sensory circuits, and proactive behaviour management techniques.
Key Responsibilities:

Support pupils with SEMH and ADHD tendencies to access learning

Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours calmly and consistently

Adapt learning activities to suit emotional, sensory, and communication needs

Use strategies such as brain breaks, sensory tasks, and targeted language development

Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
What We’re Looking For:

Significant experience working in SEMH or specialist SEND settings

Confident handling challenging behaviours – Team Teach training highly desirable

Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies and curriculum adaptation

Calm, proactive, and nurturing in approach with strong communication skills

Able to start immediately and commit through to Summer 2026
