Job Spotlight: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Barking and Dagenham
Pay: £90 – £110 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-Time | Monday to Friday | Immediate Start
The Role
In a small, supportive special school in Barking and Dagenham, every day begins with one goal — to make learning meaningful for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism (ASC).
You won’t just be assisting in lessons — you’ll be a steady presence, helping young learners feel safe, understood, and capable.
This is a role for someone who sees potential beyond behaviour and progress beyond grades.
A Day in Your Role

Start the morning by greeting your 1:1 student, building calm and trust before lessons begin.

Support small group sessions that focus on emotional regulation and engagement.

Help teachers tailor learning to each child’s needs.

Celebrate the small wins — a smile, a completed worksheet, a breakthrough moment.
What You’ll Bring
✔ At least 1 year’s experience working in a primary school.
✔ At least 1 year’s experience supporting students with Autism and SEMH.
✔ Patience, empathy, and the confidence to de-escalate challenging situations.
✔ Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
✔ An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or willingness to apply).
