SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Newham
Pay Rate: £90 – £110 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-Time | Monday to Friday
Start Date: Immediate

About the Role

Are you an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant looking to make a genuine impact?
GSL Education is working with a supportive Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Newham, seeking a skilled professional to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism (ASC).

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, where your expertise, patience, and commitment will help pupils develop confidence, emotional resilience, and academic progress in a nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and Autism.

  • Assist teachers in adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs.

  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation.

  • Encourage independence, communication, and engagement in learning.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to ensure every child receives personalised support.

Requirements

✅ Minimum 1 year experience working in a primary school setting.
✅ Minimum 1 year experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASC) and SEMH needs.
✅ A caring, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs.
✅ Strong communication and teamwork skills.
✅ Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
✅ Enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
