Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: £95 – £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are recruiting for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of additional needs across schools in Barnsley.

Role Overview:
The role involves working closely with teachers and SEN professionals to deliver tailored support, create inclusive learning environments, and encourage pupil development both academically and emotionally. Your aim will be to help pupils build confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, or learning difficulties.
  • Adapt learning activities and teaching materials to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Promote inclusion by encouraging pupil participation and engagement in lessons.
  • Assist with personal care, emotional regulation, and sensory needs where required.
  • Work in partnership with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external specialists.
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to support plans and review meetings.
  • Support behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school or care setting.
  • A strong understanding of SEND, including knowledge of strategies that support additional learning and behavioural needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach when supporting pupils with diverse needs.
  • Confidence in assisting with communication, social development, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Ability to follow EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and adapt learning support accordingly.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and external professionals.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through GSL Education.
