Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Sheffield (S5)
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Sheffield (S5). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in pupils’ lives by helping them develop confidence, emotional awareness, and positive learning behaviours.

As an SEMH TA, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Help create a structured, safe, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes engagement and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement personalised learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Encourage pupils to build resilience, self-esteem, and positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours calmly and consistently.

Requirements for the SEMH TA role:

  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural challenges.
  • A patient, proactive, and empathetic approach to supporting learning and wellbeing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teaching staff.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
