SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Chapeltown (S35)
Salary: £86 – £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in schools across Chapeltown.

About the Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will play a key role in supporting students who face social and emotional challenges that affect their learning. You will assist teachers in delivering tailored support, help students develop positive coping strategies, and encourage personal growth in a safe and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities of an SEMH TA:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education and behaviour plans.
  • Encourage positive attitudes and behaviour through consistent guidance and support.
  • Help students develop emotional resilience and confidence in learning.
  • Support teachers with classroom management and lesson delivery.
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to promote the wellbeing and development of students.
  • Maintain a calm, structured environment that promotes positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, reporting any concerns to teaching staff.
  • Assist with activities and interventions designed to enhance social and emotional learning.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is essential.
  • A relevant qualification such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or equivalent is desirable.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to remain patient, calm, and consistent in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
