SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield (S26)
Salary: £86 – £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/ Long-term, Full-time/ Part-time

GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Sheffield.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support students who face social or emotional barriers to learning. The role involves providing one-to-one or small group support, helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour within a nurturing learning environment.

Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) TA Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in both academic and behavioural development.
  • Build trusting and positive relationships with students to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Assist in implementing individual education and behaviour plans tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt classroom activities for inclusion and success.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions focused on social skills, self-regulation, and confidence-building.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing and resilience through consistent, calm, and supportive communication.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies when necessary.
  • Support the delivery of lessons and school activities, ensuring all students can participate.

Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs or in a similar role is essential.
  • A relevant qualification, such as CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistance, Childcare, or Health and Social Care, is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH and effective support strategies.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people reach their full potential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
