Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Sheffield (S9)
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive and supportive school in Sheffield (S9). This is a rewarding opportunity to help pupils overcome challenges, develop confidence, and engage positively with their learning.

As an SEMH TA, you will be working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff, you will implement personalised learning and behaviour plans, support pupils in managing challenging behaviour, and assist in monitoring progress to ensure every pupil can achieve their full potential.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Help create a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment that promotes emotional wellbeing and engagement.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement personalised learning and behaviour plans.
  • Encourage pupils to develop resilience, confidence, and positive social skills.
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
  • Assist in monitoring progress and providing feedback to teachers to inform future support.

Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs.
  • A calm, compassionate, and proactive approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and under teacher guidance.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
