Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)

Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing and inclusive school in Rotherham. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is committed to helping pupils overcome challenges, develop confidence, and reach their full potential.
As an SEMH TA, you will be working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff, you will implement personalised learning and behaviour strategies, encourage positive social skills, manage challenging behaviour calmly, and support pupils to achieve both personal and academic growth.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Help create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and encouraged.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement personalised support and behaviour plans.
- Assist in developing pupils’ social and emotional skills, promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
- Support pupils in managing emotions, building resilience, and developing self-regulation strategies.
- Offer encouragement and guidance to help pupils achieve both academic and personal goals.
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional learning needs.
- A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to working with vulnerable learners.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
- The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
- A full CV cvering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
