Autism Specialist Teacher – Transforming Lives Through Understanding

Location: Newham
Salary: £150 – £250 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-Time | Immediate Start

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and skilled Autism Specialist Teacher to join a forward-thinking special educational needs school in Newham. This full-time role is ideal for an experienced teacher who is committed to supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) through tailored learning strategies, empathy, and expertise.

As an Autism Specialist Teacher, you will play a crucial role in creating a calm, structured, and inclusive environment that helps each student achieve their full potential — academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

As an Autism Specialist Teacher, your focus will be on promoting independence, confidence, and engagement in every learner. You will:

  • Design and deliver personalised learning plans for students with Autism (ASC) and related communication needs.

  • Adapt the curriculum to meet individual learning styles, using visual aids, sensory tools, and structured routines.

  • Foster a supportive environment that encourages self-regulation, communication, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Collaborate with support staff, speech and language therapists, and parents to ensure holistic support.

  • Track progress and provide consistent, positive feedback to celebrate each student’s achievements.

  • Implement behaviour management strategies rooted in patience, understanding, and respect.

Ideal Autism Specialist Teacher Profile

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Proven experience working as an Autism Specialist Teacher or within an ASC-focused classroom.

  • A thorough understanding of autism, sensory processing differences, and effective communication methods (such as PECS or Makaton).

  • Compassion, creativity, and adaptability in managing diverse learning needs.

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).

  • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm.
