We are seeking a dedicated Speech & Communication Support Assistant to join a school in St Leonards, helping pupils develop essential communication skills and supporting their learning across the curriculum.

About the Role
The Speech & Communication Support Assistant will work closely with teachers and SEN staff to deliver targeted support for pupils with speech, language, and communication difficulties. You will assist in developing individualised interventions, monitor progress, and provide both in-class and small group support to help pupils communicate effectively and access learning successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with speech, language, and communication needs both in-class and in small groups

  • Assist teachers in implementing individualised learning plans

  • Help manage classroom behaviour and encourage positive social interactions

  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff

  • Provide personal care where necessary, ensuring comfort and dignity

  • Collaborate with SEN and speech and language staff to deliver effective interventions

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience supporting pupils with speech, language, or communication needs

  • Knowledge of SEN strategies and classroom support techniques

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Patience, empathy, and flexibility to adapt to individual pupil needs
