Sports Specialist/Coach
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: November 2025 (After October Half Term)
Salary: £93 - £110
per day

Contract Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

GSL Education are currently looking to appoint an enthusiastic Sports Specialist/Coach to support learners with complex SEMH needs, using sport as a tool to build confidence, resilience, and life skills, in York, North Yorkshire starting in November 2025.

About the School:

  • With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
  • Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
  • The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
  • The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
  • The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
  • One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.

Sports Specialist/Coach Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging sports and physical activity sessions tailored to learners’ needs.
  • Use sport to promote teamwork, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Support students’ individual learning and wellbeing goals through physical activity.
  • Ensure that proper safety guidelines and equipment are in place during practices and matches.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff.
  • Regularly update students and parents about practice schedules, match results, and any other relevant information.

Sports Specialist/Coach Requirements:

  • Holding a Sport and Exercise Science or Physical Education Degree at 2:1 classification or higher.
  • Relevant experience supporting children or young adults with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Background in sports coaching, physical education, or youth mentoring.
  • Strong leadership abilities to inspire, motivate, and guide student athletes.
  • Hold an enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered with the update service or be willing to apply a for a new one through GSL Education.
