Learning Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: November 2025 (After October Half Term)
Salary: £90 - £110 per day
Contract Type: Full-Time/Part-Time
GSL Education are seeking caring and committed Learning Support Assistant to work a Client Secondary School supporting students aged 11–19 years with a range of additional needs, in York, North Yorkshire, starting in November 2025.
About the School:
- With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
- Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
- The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
- The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
- The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
- One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.
Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:
- Support students with learning, communication, and emotional needs in class.
- Assist in the delivery of personalised learning plans.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support, focusing on individual learning goals and progress.
- Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them to build confidence and resilience in a higher education setting.
- Assist in delivering tailored interventions and classroom activities.
- Support students’ personal care needs when required, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
Learning Support Assistant Requirements:
- Relevant qualifications in Education, Teaching and Learning, Psychology, Social work, or a related field is essential.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with SEN or additional needs.
- A solid understanding of various SEN conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
- Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help overcome students’ barriers.
- Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
