SEMH Teacher
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, 1 Year Fixed Term
Salary: MPS/UPS
Start Date: January 2026
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teacher to join a specialist alternative provision in York from January 2026. This is a full-time, 1-year contract, teaching a small Key Stage 3 group of approximately seven learners who require additional emotional, behavioural, and academic support.
About the School:
The setting provides a highly nurturing and therapeutic learning environment for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as additional complexities such as autism, ADHD, and anxiety. The staff team work collaboratively to build trust, promote engagement, and equip students with the skills they need to succeed both academically and personally.
About The Role:
- Plan and deliver tailored lessons that meet the needs of learners, including those working below age-related expectations.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture where all students feel valued and supported.
- Manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively using de-escalation and restorative approaches.
- Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and the wider pastoral team to promote attendance and engagement.
- Track and report on student progress in line with EHCP outcomes and personalised learning targets.
As the Ideal SEMH Teacher, you should have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent) – essential.
- A proven experience teaching in SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision settings.
- Skills in differentiation, behaviour management, and trauma-informed practice.
- A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
- Resilience, be empathetic, and confident in working with students who display challenging behaviour.
