Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Lewisham
Salary: £100 - £140 per day
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education London Branch are looking for a passionate and dedicated HLTA to join a vibrant coeducational secondary school in Lewisham. This is an exciting opportunity for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who is eager to make a real difference in the lives of young learners.

The school is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HLTA to take a lead role in delivering specialised interventions within a newly established, informal Resource Base. The base supports Year 7 students in a secondary mainstream environment who are working at Key Stage 1–3 academic levels and/or have severe social communication difficulties.

The successful HLTA will be a compassionate, adaptable, and proactive professional with a proven record of supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted interventions and tailored support to students with SEN, including those with ASD and SLCN.

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and support staff to deliver engaging and inclusive learning experiences.

  • Lead small group and one-to-one sessions to promote academic, social, and emotional development.

  • Adapt teaching resources and strategies to meet individual learning needs.

  • Monitor, assess, and record student progress, providing feedback to staff and parents where appropriate.

  • Contribute to the development of an inclusive, nurturing, and positive classroom environment.

  • Support with classroom management and behaviour strategies to maintain a calm and focused learning space.

Requirements

  • Hold a recognised HLTA qualification or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Experience working with students with SEN, particularly ASD and SLCN.

  • Strong understanding of differentiated teaching methods and behaviour management strategies.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated school team.

  • A positive attitude and commitment to helping every child succeed.
