Dedicated Learning Support Assistant Needed – SLD Setting (Chelmsford)

If so, GSL Education are seeking a committed and caring SLD Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Chelmsford.


About the School

This is a warm, inclusive, and well-resourced Special School dedicated to supporting pupils aged 4–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism, and additional communication needs. The staff team is passionate about providing individualised learning opportunities that help students develop independence, confidence, and life skills.


The Role

As an SLD Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and therapists to deliver tailored learning support to students. You’ll help create an engaging, safe, and nurturing environment that enables every pupil to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SLD and complex needs.

  • Assist with classroom activities, sensory learning, and communication support.

  • Implement strategies designed by teachers and therapists (e.g. PECS, Makaton).

  • Support students with personal care where required.

  • Promote independence, emotional wellbeing, and social development.

  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SLD, PMLD, or complex SEN (essential).

  • Understanding of additional needs such as autism, sensory impairments, or medical conditions.

  • Patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach to learning.

  • Willingness to assist with personal care when needed.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children (enhanced DBS on the update service required).
